Time on Page is currently calculated as the difference between the point when a person lands on a page and when they move on to the next page. Those who don’t move to the next page (bounced visitors) are excluded from the calculation. This makes the time on page less accurate for pages with high bounce rate. Would be nice to find a method to count time on page of bounced visitors too.
Perhaps I’m not experienced in how this is normally calculated, but this was very surprising to me! We were working with incorrect assumptions and this turned out to be the problem. I think it should either actually count time on page, or be called something else (time before navigation). The naming is downright misleading now…
